Attending conferences!

I'm not sure if every freelancer should head to editing/writing conferences, but I think you should at least do one a year. If you are specializing in business writing, try SABEW or feature writing, try AASFE, or investigative journalists should head to Missouri to be taught by the insightful IRE staff.

Either way, it's important to meet other writers in your field and get some information on your industry. It's what I'm going to be doing this weekend and hope that all of us can follow suit. So if that means heading to a book publishing convention or writers workshop, by all means -- do it! We can all be better writers . . . or at least better-paid ones.
