I forgot to mention, after a long period where I thought a client lost my invoice for travel -- they found it and sent me my check! I was very happy to see it.

Turns out, someone did have it somewhere in their office and it was processed. So there is still a light at the end of the tunnel for any writer with a misplaced invoice (which I'm sure will multiply now that the holidays are on us.)
